After 21 years of service, the motor for my garage door gave out. I went to Sears in 2015 and they installed a replacement. It worked fine until last week, when the wire that connects to the chain snapped at the connection point. When the serviceman, Tomas, came to replace it, he said that the wire and chain had been installed incorrectly in 2015. Here is a direct quote from the service report: "Replaced chain on garage door. Trolley was traveling too far, plastic piece from chain was wrapping around front pulley. Caused it to come apart and snap."
$203.38 later, when I brought this to the attention of Sears and asked for some sign that they would atone for the mistake made in 2015, I was told that the warranty had expired and that there was nothing they could do.
I pointed out that the technician had told me and them in his report that the motor had not been installed properly and they would not budge. Perhaps I might have gotten another 20 years out of this new motor without incident had they installed it correctly in the first place. But the warranty is enough guidance for Sears.
Would you want to continue doing business with a company like this? Not me.
