Similar to the most recent reviewer, we had previously had a positive experience with Academy Overhead Door roughly 8 years ago and therefore didn't think to check recent ratings. When one of the springs broke on our garage door on Saturday, August 12th, we were relieved to hear that they could come out that evening. James McGuffey and his son came to our house and installed a temporary fix, which rejoined the two broken pieces of spring by threading a piece of metal onto each end. We were instructed to use it sparingly until the springs could be replaced. We agreed that he would replace both springs and that we would pay half the cost upfront. We sent him $225 that night after reviewing the invoice. We followed up with him on Thursday, August 17th regarding installation and heard back the following day that he had been out sick but would be back to work the following week. He assured us he would reach out on Sunday, August 20th to schedule installation. We have not heard anything from him since August 18th despite many attempts to reach him. We also attempted to go to the physical address listed on their website, but no building with that address exists on Pinon Ranch View. He has simply disappeared with our $225. We ended up contacting another company to complete the repair, and we will be pursuing legal action against Academy Overhead Door to recoup the money we paid toward the garage door repair.
This company stole our deposit ($200). After temp fix of garage door, wont return calls or emails! This company should not be allowed to operate. The rating should be Zero!
We had an emergency with the spring breaking on the garage door. James came out that evening and made a temporary fix until the part was ordered. James said he needed cash for the deposit due to his phone not working for credit card payment. He won’t return calls and calls go directly to voice mail. James McGuffey took my $250 deposit to order new springs, and now won't pick up the phone with a full voicemail box. Was initially responsive and came out quickly to look at my broken garage door springs. Said they would be in later in the week. Called back later in the week and he said he was hoping they would be in that day... Now, almost 2 weeks after they initially came out, I have not heard back and they won't answer the phone. I had used them in the past and they seemed good, but something has changed. I would NOT use Academy Overhead Door. They basically stole my $250 and disappeared into the night.
I bought a house this summer that had a sticker on the garage wall from the last visit from Academy Overhead Door. I called that number and a technician named James McGuffey came to my house to repair the problem I was having with the door.. It seemed that he had fixed the problem, but he said he was not able to send me a receipt because of connection issues. The door was supposed to be covered under a 30 day warranty. They did not take credit card so I paid with a check. A couple days later at the garage door started having problems again. I could not get the technician to answer my call or texts over the following week. The phone number that is listed online no longer goes through. I'm thinking this company is a scam. I will be calling my bank to see if I can stop payment on the check at this late date, but I don't have high hopes.
I had several excellent experiences with Academy Overhead Door recently, specifically with a gentleman named Kendall. He was very professional yet personable in helping install some new garage door trim and also In repairing a broken photocell for us. His work quality was excellent and it was completed quickly and efficiently. Highly recommend this outstanding local business!
Excellent service! They returned my call quickly and came out to fix my garage door the same day. Kendall was polite and efficient. My dog liked him, which was a huge plus. I would definitely recommend Academy overhead door.
Shawn was excellent. He was even early to the appointment which worked out perfectly for me. He made a recommendation to replace the door rollers and I can barely hear my garage door go up and down now. It's awesome. I took a chance on a Groupon and I'm happy I did. I would not hesitate to call them for any future needs. 12/18/2019 Update: Called because of the great service that I have received before and because of the awesome sticker that they thankfully left for me. Diagnosed a very simple problem that caused a whole lot of issues on my end. Very fair in their pricing. Quick to respond. Took the time to explain the issue to me. I will call them whenever I need a repair and when I'm ready to change out my opener.

Great job! We had a mouse problem (the little rascals found a way under our garage door), snow would find its way inside, the door would creak and was not working well. They put in a floor gasket, new rubber seals, fixed springs and rollers. We have had a smooth running door with no weather or critters inside since. We will use them when we are ready for a new door (soon I hope!) Services Rendered: We needed a very old garage door "fixed up" until we could budget for a new one.
James and Josh are a dynamic duo. They are very professional and highly skilled. The spring broke on our garage door leaving us trapped. They rearranged their schedule so that they could make it out the same day, coming late in the evening. They kept tabs with me all day about timing of their arrival. I highly recommend them. I had two garage door openers replaced and the service I received was more than I expected. Shawn replaced the openers quickly and made sure everything was properly working and I was completely satisfied with the installation before he left. I was really impressed with his attention to detail and professional manner in doing his job. My whole experience with Academy Over Head Door, from my first phone call to completion of the job, was top notch. Their pricing was the best I found. I was not disappointed with them in anyway. I highly recommend them.

Just ok. We had issues with the automatic safety feature after they adjusted it. We fixed it our self. The main issue was the value of the service. $450 was a little steep for what they did. We got a bid before choosing Academy on replacing the spring and they were $215 vs. the $390 Academy charged. Services Rendered: Repair of spring, replace all rollers, align and adjust both garage doors, and some minor repairs.

Well it was same day service after a spring had broken, so that is why we want with them. Unfortunately their pricing is not competitive with the two other companies we had talked to earlier that day. Thank goodness for a $35 coupon off their site which brought the price down a bit. Also, they will charge you $95 for the labor and install along with a tuneup, whether or not you want one. If you ask about it they will shave the price down to $75 but they should be up front about that little tidbit. Their initial bill was over $100 more than two other companies. Needless to say, unless it is an emergency, I won't be using them again. Services Rendered: Replaced springs on one garage door.
I purchased a $39 garage door tune-up. The gentleman I met with was very informative and answered a lot of questions for me. He explained how the garage door works. He was very knowledgeable. Services Rendered: They came and worked on my garage door.
No call and no show. The girl I called to set up appointment with was very short and appeared to have no interest. When Shawn didn't show up for the 3-5 appointment window I called to check the status. Again talked to the same young lady and she came across clueless. Price for services also seemed a bit high to me. Services Rendered: Repair dents in garage door panel.
Discovered Academy Overhead Door with Google search. Read customer reviews, and ordered service. My garage torsion springs were broken as well as several other track related items. The dispatch was nice and courteous. Time was arranged. Received an immediate call for an earlier reschedule (which I was pleased to get the work completed sooner). Shaun arrived with assistant, Matt. Both were respectful and knowledgeable. Work completed in 90 minutes. Price was itemized and fair. Very satisfied with the work and professionalism. I would recommend them.
