We have used Mountain Fox Garage Doors on at least one other occasion. When one spring of three on a garage door broke recently, we called them again. They sent a technician out, and he said they would have to order a new spring. Unlike other companies, he would not put a clamp on for a temporary fix, leaving the door unusable and our car trapped. Since we have another car, and we really didn't have any choice, we agreed to wait for our spring.
The next day, we received a call that a technician could come out between 5-6pm (a surprise as they hadn't indicated they could get the spring that quickly). At 6:15pm he called saying he was 25 minutes away and it would take an hour and a half to do the work -- much too late for him and us. We agreed it would be better to do the work early the next morning. When he arrived the next morning, he informed me that he had to replace all three springs because that is "the best practice". He was advised that this was not our agreement -- we only wanted the one spring replaced as the other two were relatively new. He looked at me and said "No thanks. I'll pass." HUH? We argued for another few minutes (at one point I even slipped with a single Gxddxxxxx), but he flatly refused to replace one spring. As he got in his truck, I advised him that a review of the company's "bait and switch" practice would be posted on Yelp and NextDoor. He said "I am a *master technician* and I have no trouble getting work" and then he drove off.
I called the office to complain about a) the bait and switch where I contracted for a $250 job and the technician would only perform a $750 job, and b) the technician's unprofessional behavior. The young lady who took the call said it was a misunderstanding and I should have been advised that all three springs would have to be replaced under their "best practices policy". (Not a single word was said about that when the other technician originally came out.) Then she said that they are a Christian company, and did not wish to do business with someone who would swear at them. (My one little slip *after* this second technician said he wouldn't perform the contracted work.)
On their website, Mountain Fox makes the following claims:
"Mountain Fox Garage Doors is proud to offer you a free estimate at no obligation. We do not use high pressure sales tactics. We leave the choice always to you!"
"We only fix what actually needs fixing on your overhead door without trying to upsell unnecessary bells and whistles."
We take great offense to Mountain Fox calling themselves a "Christian company" to justify a clear bait and switch sales process that would have resulted in three times the material and labor, and three times the cost. It was also offensive to be referred to in such a way as to question our own "morality".
By the way, we called Ankmar and they had a technician out the next morning, who put a temporary clamp on the garage door so we could use it until he could get the correct spring (single). Today, they came out and installed the single spring and everything is working perfectly.
