I ended up not hiring Sterling Door. At first the responses were answered in a timely manner but by last email never was after i said, "the price keeps going up and you are not even hear yet and sorry but too funny ...extra charge for a cotter pin ive done that takes seconds. " I was looking to replace a spring and necessary cables for two separate garage doors and which is what I requested a quote on in my emails with pictures. Needless to say I got an uneasy feeling that once Sterling Door gets to your house they will upcharge/add charges to everything. The first email I was given a quote of "You’re probably looking around $70 - $80 (plus tax) per spring plus $89.95 plus $25 labor. If you need cables, you’re looking around $40 plus tax." You can see from this response that it does not specify it it is for 2 doors like I asked. The second email when I asked further questions and wanted clarifications I responded with: "Thank you. However what is the 89.95 for it just says plus 89.95 and doesnt describe the fee? Also is the cable fee for both doors (4 cables), one door (2 cables) or each cable (one cable)?" The next response from Sterling was; "The $89.95 is for the service call. The cable price is for two cables on one door." BEWARE, This is the only company out of 6 that I contacted that charges this outrageous service call fee. From my emails back and forth I can say this is ploy for them come out to your house add fees not mentioned/change fees and then when you say no you never told me that or I do not agree they will charge you this $90 fee just for showing up! The entire job is off site form their business it is the nature of that type of job there should not be a service fee at all. And I also like how the response email did not say what it was and I had to ask about it, shady in my opinion trying to sneak a charge in there. Then I asked; "is the labor 25 total or per door? " Sterling doors reply: "The labor cost would cover one door (Cotter pin may be additional labor charge – if the technician have to take apart the pin). If we replace the spring and cables on the other door, there would only be ONE service call plus labor and materials. Estimate would be $50 labor for both doors. Please note: This is an estimate and prices are subject to change based on the condition of the door and materials needed to complete the repair." Then I sent my last email (that i mentioned in the first paragraph): "the price keeps going up and you are not even hear yet and sorry but too funny ...extra charge for a cotter pin ive done that takes seconds." Since I called them out on the price going up and up and up I never received a response back and that was 5 days ago! So this to me confirms my suspicions 100%. They did remain professional until they never responded and that is just bad business and rates them down to an F for professionalism in my book. Needless to say I will avoid this company. They are not upfront/honest and I imagine hundreds of dollars would be added to the estimate by the time they left. I do understand that what an estimate is and that it can change but to not be upfront with total costs and add labor for replacing a cotter pin along with a service call, those are red flags for me. Sterling doors please not warning also is more shady they are basically confirming to me after all the emails that the price will go up so expect it. And they are giving the warning to cover themselves when it does go up and once they get to the house you will be stuck paying the 90$ so you know would just have to eat all the other added costs to come and not to waste the 90$. The total given estimate was given as 380$ plus tax after my calculation, since they could not give me a total dollar amount themselves, without any of the not sure subject to change warning fees that were sure to come. Plus at 380$ plus tax this was the highest estimate on Angies list that I received and it wasnt even final it was going to go up; therefore I could not fill in the approximate cost of service as it is unknown and astronomical to me! [Sterling Doors last contact to me was 2/27/2019. my last email was sent on 2/28. After the initial contact email I emailed on my personal email since when you are on a companies Angies webpage and click on the email icon next to the see phone number the email message window that pops up does not let you attach photos; so I did not think I could and I asked Sterling Door for their email address, which they supplied and how we corresponded. I did realize after a business responds to the pop up email message and they reply you can go to your user Angies email page and then you can attach photos thru Angies list.] Attached photos are of both doors that I wanted to replace the spring and cables on. The one door the spring and cables broke. the second door the spring and cables were not broken; I wanted to replace them for maintenance.
