"When people keep repeating
That you'll never fall in love
When everybody keeps retreating
But you can't seem to get enough
Let my love open the door to your heart"

Let's be honest, when you have somewhere to go and your garage door won't open (even after you disengage the lift) you are in a world of trouble.
Garage door operators are like any other machine, after X many years they poop out. For ours, 15 years was the magic number.
I called American Excellence at 9 AM and they returned the call just a few hours later. A few hours after that, their technician, Dan, was here checking things out.
He got the overhead door to open. He got the overhead door to close, but then it mysteriously opened again for no apparent reason. He worked very hard to figure out what was wrong and ultimately decided the computer board inside the operator assembly was in the process of intermittent failure. Blame it on old age. Swapping it out for a new board was a risky option.
So we decided to bite the bullet and go for a full replacement of the overhead operator with a new outdoor panel to open the door with a code you punch in.
One interesting thing we learned is that this new generation of door openers doesn't play nice with certain LED lightbulbs. I guess the technologies fight each other. So you'll need an OG incandescent bulb or a certain type of LED..
Shout out to Dan who was super helpful, polite, and had great customer service skills.
