After careful consideration, I chose to share my experience with Garage Door Doctors to provide a transparent picture and a fair warning to others. Despite their higher markup, I intended to continue using them due to a three-year history. However, the lack of response from their supervisor and their disinterest in addressing my concerns made it evident that they had no interest in retaining my business.
Our relationship with Garage Door Doctors began in 2021 when we bought our house in Katy, TX. We valued proactive maintenance and regularly used their services. However, my recent encounter with technician Justin J. left a lot to be desired. His fast-talking and aggressive sales tactics during a maintenance visit were concerning.
Justin insisted on two maintenance services just to identify a squeak, making me feel like a sales target. He then tried to sell me an annual subscription and a surge protector, falsely claiming my existing protection was inadequate. This dishonest attempt to coerce me into unnecessary purchases was a red flag.
While Justin correctly identified the cause of the squeak, the pricing for spring replacement became an issue. He presented three options, ranging from $500 to $1000, and pressured me to add a subscription plan for supposed discounts. His refusal to provide a straightforward quote without the subscription was frustrating.
Things took a turn when Justin claimed that delaying the spring replacement would void my warranty for a Liftmaster opener installed in 2022. This threat was baseless, as I later confirmed with Liftmaster that the warranty is serviced through the dealer, and choosing another Liftmaster dealer would not void it.
After Justin's departure, I called the front office seeking a manager, but despite assurances, I never heard back. I had to wait until Monday for another technician, Isaiah, to hook up my manual garage doors. Despite the lack of communication, I was still willing to give Garage Door Doctors a chance to fix the situation.
However, after a week of no contact, I reached out to another company that promptly addressed and resolved the issue. The overall experience was awful, and I discovered that Garage Door Doctors had sold their business to A1 in 2023. This change likely contributed to the decline in service quality. Considering my extensive research and the negative experience, I cannot recommend Garage Door Doctors.
