I called a technician to come out and help me because I was locked out of my home on a Saturday evening. The technician came within 30 minutes and was able to help me. The technician was prompt and professional.
Before the technician commenced the work, he wrote out the list of the services he intended to charge me:
The Service Call charge is $89
The Lock out charge is $179
The Labor charge is $129
The service call charge covers the technician driving to assist you with the emergency. I agree with this charge and believe it is fair especially for a Saturday evening.
The lock out charge and labor charge were interesting. It would seem that the lock out charge would include the labor. It looks like I am being charged twice for labor. The technician explained that the lock out charge is for me being locked out of my home. The labor charge is for him to fix the situation. If I'm locked out of my home, wouldn't the lock out charge include the cost to fix the issue? Apparently, not.
After some back and forth, we were able to settle on a price of $250 for the service. The technician was able to pick the lock on the doorknob and open the door within 2 minutes. The lock did not need to be replaced.
I am VERY grateful for the technician's service; however, I believe the company is taking advantage of customers in their time of need/ emergency. I called and spoke to the manager/ supervisor he informed me that this pricing is in line with the market and that I should be grateful for the service.
I do understand that services cost money and want to state that I was fully expecting to pay a premium but wasn't expecting to be quoted nearly $400. I also understand that I could've declined the service and asked the technician to leave but I was informed that whether he performed the service or not, I would be charged the $89 service call fee.
I wish I had been told the pricing over the phone. I am thankful that I was able to settle on a price of $250. I do not recommend this company unless you are willing to pay a lot of money.
