First to last John Horton and his team are truly exceptional! If you are looking for someone that you can depend on to do a first class job for you Horton Remodeling is the right choice. John is a complete professional as are all of his men. He very quickly scheduled an appointment to give me an estimate on the job. He arrived with a clip board, examined all the work to be done and was able to provide us with a detailed estimate within 24 hours. His estimate was not the least expensive of the three that we had requested but it was certainly the most thorough and it specified two coats for all of the painting whereas other painters specified only one. Also, it was obvious from the start that his attention to detail was much more comprehensive. As it turns out, based on the amount of time and expertise that Horton Remodeling spent on the job, we are convinced that his pricing is very competitive. John and his team showed up exactly on the date that we had agreed upon and they stayed on the job, without interruption, until it was completed, totally to our satisfaction. Our home was built in 1879 and is located in the Downtown Historic District, this means that not only are parts of it very old, requiring extra labor, but also any changes that are made need to be reviewed by the commission and any replaced shutters needed to match those that were being replaced. With 22 windows and 22 pairs of shutters, not to mention three sets of french doors and, numerous decorative corbels around the roof line the scraping and painting process was extremely labor intensive. The shutters required extensive scraping, priming and repainting. Some new shutters had to be obtained and John actually had new ones altered so that they matched, exactly, the existing ones. Throughout four weeks of on site work his painters and carpenters were polite, respectful, careful and most important -- very skilled in the execution of their work. They refused to re-hang the shutters until they were absolutely sure that they were as perfect as they could get them. Likewise, they painstakingly repainted the french doors three times because they were not absolutely pleased with how they looked. Every day they arrived early ready to work and when they left at the end of the day their equipment was carefully stowed away and every work area was swept clean. The attic stair replacement was complicated by the fact that the existing old stair had broken and we had it sealed within the drop down door until it could be repaired. John's men showed great creativity, as well as courage( they had to stand on ladders above the staircase without knowing if the existing stairs might fall on them), in dislodging the old stairs, removing them without causing further damage (to the antique staircase as well as two crystal chandeliers which complicated the project). They also showed skill and creativity in installing the new stairs. Since we had them working in that area already we also had them paint the hallway as well -- their interior painting is equally as good as their exterior work. During this project our garage door, old and worn out, broke. Without realizing that Horton Remodeling could have replaced it I mistakenly called a garage door specialist. They came out and did a very poor job replacing the door. John, and some of his team members, were able to explain to us what was wrong with the installation (just kindly sharing their knowledge) and we were then able to get a new door installed correctly. Clearly, they could do a wonderful job with garage doors as well. First to last Horton Remodeling was A+++, it is so good to know that there are professionals out there that you can absolutely trust to do an excellent job for you. We still have a couple of other projects that we intend to call them in on, obviously they are qualified to do just about anything in the remodeling arena. May they stay in business forever, we will sleep easier at night knowing that whatever help we might need with this truly loved but antique home, we have this reliable resource to call upon. Services Rendered: We contacted Horton Remodeling to pressure wash our house and to clean, scrape and paint all of the trim, fascia, windows, doors and shutters (replacing as necessary) on our house and garage. We also needed him to remove and replace a very long and heavy (12 foot ) attic pull down ladder which required framing as well as interior painting.
Though I was a tense, nervous wreck and my husband extremely exacting, things went well. John was good at being calm and smoothing over difficult situations. Services Rendered: John is a diamond that we located on Angie's List after the original contractor spent our allotted budget ( based on his estimate) and left the job incomplete. John came and looked at our project, an 1859 house being restored as a vacation rental, emailed us the necessary estimates within 2 days and committed to our project. Our time constraints were very tight as we live 12 hours away from the house we were restoring and needed to leave for home in about 3 weeks. John's crew, Tim, Rob, Ernesto and John himself arrived promptly, worked diligently and finished our project as promised within the estimates John established. We value John so much that we have entrusted him with the keys to both this house and a condo we also use a a vacation rental. John and his crew assembled a kitchen from pieces, put in a dryer vent, installed windows in a sunroom, replaced rotten wood outside of the garage, replaced improperly installed wood around the outside of the garage, repainted, replaced a soffit damaged in a leak situation, installed television mounts, put front doors including special hardware in place, repaired badly done wood floors, repaired a fiberglass shower enclosure and on and on.
All of my dealings with Mr. Horton went very smoothly. I contacted Mr. Horton regarding a home of a friend who recently passed away and of which I am one of the executors. He came out looked everything over and gave us an itemized proposal. The proposal was approved and we scheduled a time with Mr. Horton to begin work. His work, as always, is beautifully done. I have used Mr. Horton many times at my own home and will definitely use him again. Services Rendered: Replaced garage door, removed borders in each room prior to painting, painted interior of home which included covering nail holes, etc., replaced rotten wood on outside front of house, laid carpet in LR/DR and one bedroom, made any interior repairs that were necessary.
He was incredibly professional and even stayed past dinner time to finish the job. Our old jacuzzi tub is just like new and we couldn't be happier with the work John did. We're having him come back to do a few more jobs, like replacing bathroom fixtures and a garage door motor repair. It's so nice to find someone who's trustworthy, honest, and whom is wonderfully talented at his craft. We are customers for life! Services Rendered: John installed a new jacuzzi tub motor for our master bathroom. The motor had died twice before and it hadn't worked in 2 years. We were ready to have our bath tub back. The jacuzzi tub is original to the house which was built in 1986. The company that makes the motor went bankrupt and had been bought 2 other times by different owners. John had the daunting task of tracking down the current company that manufactured the motor. He had success and was able to order it for us.
The job went perfectly. My old toilet, tub and sink in the master bath were replaced. Mr. Horton was to pick up any of the items that needed to be replaced. My tub was shipped from out of state and Mr. Horton met the driver and put the tub in his storage unit until it was installed. He also removed all of the old tile from around my tub and since the tub was twice as tall as any normal tub, he had to replace all of the plumbing relating to the tub as well as set up the electricity for the jets in the tub. Mr. Horton tore up all of the old carpet and replaced it with the new. The room looks beautiful and feels so comfortable. I think the price was very reasonable. I will try to submit photos when the wallpaper is installed. Mr. Horton can do just about anything but does not do roofing or wallpapering. I would highly recommend Mr. Horton to any who wants someone reasonable to perform their work. Services Rendered: Mr. Horton replaced a toilet and sink in my half bath. He also totally redid my full bath by installing a walk-in tub with attached plumbing, replaced my toilet and sink and the tile relating to the tub area. My bathroom carpet was also replaced. Mr. Horton also built me a beauiful wood cabinet in my extra bedroom that goes from floor to ceiling as I needed more storage space.
It went great. We were very happy to have an alternate solution to buying a new garage door. The work was done quickly and professionally. We were very happy with the way it was done. Would definitely use his service again! Services Rendered: Our garage door was not going up correctly - there was some sagging. Mr. Horton suggested a solution that saved us from buying a whole new garage door. He installed support bars, which worked great. He also adjusted the tension to make up for the new weight of the door. He also adjusted the rail, so the door was not rubbing on the trim.
My driveway was in terrible shape. Mr. Horton oversaw the concrete work and even had the sidewalk from the driveway to the front door replaced. It looks great. Even my neighbors have come over to talk with him about doing work for them. I had an open carport but wanted it converted to a garage. The garage is now finished and looks beautiful. Even though the house was built in 1964, his sub-conractor was able to find the matching bricks, so the garage looks like it as built at the same time as the house. He placed motion sensor carriage lights on the front of the garage, as well as a steel door in the side wall of the garage so that I can get to the trash containers without having to go outside. I picked out the lights and Mr. Horton went and picked them up. I had forgetten to get a small light for the outside of the steel door and he matched the side light to the carriage lights perfectly. He can pick out any fittings any time for me. I am thrilled with my new garage and have additional items I want done around my house. I have aready hired Horton Remodeling to make these alterations for me. My driveway was in terrible shape. Mr. Horton oversaw the concrete work and even had the sidewalk from the driveway to the front door replaced. The only thing that he doesn't do is roofing and wallpapering. I would highly recommend Horton Remodeling to anyone who has home remodeling or repairs to be done. Services Rendered: My driveway was replaced as well as the walkway from the driveway to the front door. Converted my carport into a garage with shelving.
