The technician came on time. He was knowledgeable and experienced and able. The estimate was $270. The problem was that the garage door would not close all the way. The technician correctly identified the problem as friction with the edges of the walls and door. He replaced just two hinges with new ones which repositioned the door edge about 1/2 inch away from the edge of the wall. I could not have diagnosed the problem myself and even if I could, I wouldn't know what to do about it. The technician also recommended we replace the old 1/3HP garage door opener which was dated 1994 and replace it with a new 1/2 HP new one. This accounted for the lion's share of the cost. Whether it was necessary or not is hard for me to say. I wanted to lessen the chances of another breakdown and repair so I took a chance. The technician supplied two remote control units saying the second one was usually ten dollars but he was throwing it in for free. The technician ended up charging us ten dollars apiece for each of the two spacer hinges he installed....$20 above the original estimate. Since the spacer hinges were actually the main things necessary to fix the problem in the first place, I felt these should have been included as part of the original estimated price. Bottom line:--- The door now works flawlessly with a ten year warranty.
Services Rendered: Garage door opener was replaced with a new, more powerful one. Pre-programmed remotes were included. Two hinges were replaced with ones that moved the garage door away from the wall at its edges.
