GREAT! Although I called in mid-morning, they still were able to have a technician (Tee) come out in mid-afternoon to check out everything. Tee was very friendly and knowledgeable. He listened to my description of the problems we were having (the door would sometimes not close after opening (it only happened once or twice in the past couple of weeks) but eventually would work after I played with the door and opener a bit), explained to me what the source of the problems could be, then he began inspecting the condition and operation of the garage door. After ruling it out as a source of the problem (Tee said the door was in perfect operating condition), he next inspected the garage door opener system. After finding no obvious mechanical problems with the door opening system, Tee began disassembling the control unit and explained to me what he was doing and looking for, which I greatly appreciated. When he finished, he said the likely source of the problem we were having was the opener's circuit board. Though the 15-year old Genie garage door opener I have has a lifetime warranty on parts, Genie will NOT ACCEPT the diagnosis from a qualified garage door repair service like Overhead Door to allow a warranty claim. Instead, Genie requires the consumer to call them and stay on the phone with their tech support people for as long as 1-hour while they tell you to perform various steps and tell them what the unit is doing, including how many "blinking lights" the unit displays after certain steps. A few years ago, I went through this convaluted and annoying process with them when the unit stopped automatically turning off the lights after the unit had ran. In that instance, when we got done, Genie STILL REFUSED to allow me to make a warranty claim! I told them I would NEVER buy another Genie garage door opener because a lifetime warranty is nothing if the manufacturer won't stand behind it and when it makes the consumer jump through hoops like this instead of accepting the diagnosis from a qualified repairman. I told Tee that since the unit is still working and only "acts up" every so often, I'll keep using it. But once it starts happening more often, I would replace it. Tee gave me price quotes on several garage door openers Overhead Door sells and installs, and he also gave me a 10% off offer if I decide to replace it during the next year and I buy the unit from Overhead Door and have them install it. Tee explained to me that Overhead Door will install a garage door opener you purchase elsewhere, but the installation cost is probably about $200. I'll have to price the replacement opener both ways (purchase & installed from Overhead Door with the 10% discount, and purchased elsewhere with their installation fee) to determine if there is a appreciable difference in price. But whatever I do, I would personally request Tee to do the job! I really appreciated his friendly nature, his willingness to discuss and explain things to me, and his honesty, Tee never pressured me to buy anything or make any rushed decisions, which is really nice to see these days,
