I recently had a garage door opener installed by SCI. The motor was installed ok, but when I came home at lunch, the workman told me I would need to supply an extension cord because the cord from the new motor wouldn't reach the outlet. I only had a two prong one but he jammed it on anyway and when I came home it was dangling off the new opener right in the middle of the garage and draped at neck level over to the outlet. Its probably not to code to even use an extension cord, especially an ungrounded one. He also didn't put a lightbulb in the opener. This is not necessary but its also not good service.
I wouldn't have minded all of this I guess, if they had told me upfront it was kind of a DIY installation. They sent me a letter saying their tool boxes would only end up full of broken light bulbs and extension cords, like I was being demanding for wanting a functioning garage door opener. It didn't make sense, I mean who puts lightbulbs in their toolboxes? I'm thinking the guy found my house, so he must be able to find Fred Meyer.
Don't use them unless you have the tools to finish the job yourself.
