BBB1I called the Overhead Door Company ********** location because my automatic garage door opener was not functioning correctly. I sent a couple pictures to the office and they offered to send a technician out to take a look. Because I live 5 miles from the shop, I assumed this would be a courtesy call since there was no discussion of a charge. The technician stopped out for a few minutes, watched the door attempt to open, and quickly concluded the motor needed to be replaced. Because I had a quote from ****** Door, the company that installed my doors a few years ago, I decided to have them replace the motor. A month or so later, the Overhead door technician followed up with me apologizing he had not gotten around to giving me a quote. I explained I went with another company. A few days later I received a bill in the mail from Overhead door for $138 with a description "Service to overhead *************** "Checked & adjusted and lubed". I was upset with this bill because there was never discussion of a charge when the office offered to send out a tech. Also, the description of the bill states that work was done on the unit which is not true. I called the office to express my concern and even offered to meet them in the middle by paying just half the bill. But they would not meet me in the middle on this. I do not think I was treated fairly and I do not think this company is honest or reasonable.

BBB1I called Overhead Door in ********** ** - one of the locations of the Portland Overhead Door company - per their invoice and website. I called the ********** location around the 3rd of September and discussed the fact that one of the springs on our Overhead needed to be replaced. The door could still be lifted with one spring but it was putting a lot of strain on the mechanism. They said they would order the part and it would be 5-7 days to get the part. On October 19, 2022 an installer/repairman from Overhead Door installed the springs and the door is working. My issue, the price - its called price gouging. I had called and spoke to the owner who said - "I don't know what other companies charge to replace springs" and "I'm not changing the bill" the invoice totaled $697.00 per the internet the cost to repair this door should be around $200-$400 per the owner of the related shop in Portland Me the repair cost should be around $400 per another garage door company the cost should be around $350.After doing my research I was prepared to pay around $400 for this service. they could not give me a price at the time as they had to order the part and they would see if anything else needed work .I expected a fair reasonable bill. The installer was here 50 minutes and they charged $275 for labor and 400 for parts.. this was a local job -15 min away and they had other service calls in the area, done at their convenience we waited a month and the installer makes less than $20/hr. this is price gouging as I'm sure there was a markup on the springs and drums and bearings. I understand companies need to make a profit. but to inflate the invoice by over 175% of other companies in the area....unfair and unreasonable. Bottomline - this is price gouging, an unfair practice and should not be tolerated or accepted. Unless they changed their invoice to an equitable amount i would not recommend them to anyone.
